Sunday Sofa: Bringing PO’ UP! Live Into the DJ Set

On March 22, 2026, I had the opportunity to bring DJ_3o7 and PO’ UP! Live to Sunday Sofa, an intimate recorded DJ experience organized by Cat, also known as DJ Knwls, through her brand That Was a Good One.

Held at a creative space near Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C., Sunday Sofa combined a recorded DJ mix, kickback, and interactive hangout session. From approximately 3:00 p.m. until later that evening, guests enjoyed music, food, alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, and a closer look at the DJs and brands behind the experience.

The event featured sets from DJ Juss Magg, DJ Knwls, and DJ_3o7, with the DJs rotating throughout the afternoon. It was also sponsored by Krave, a Black-owned cocktail brand.

How the Collaboration Happened

I originally met Cat 'DJ KNWLS at a New Year’s event. We connected, stayed in contact, and she eventually attended one of our PO’ UP! Live shows. After seeing the game show in action, she believed its questions and crowd interaction would be a strong addition to Sunday Sofa.

When she invited me to DJ, the plan was simple: play my set while introducing pieces of the PO’ UP! Live experience to the room.

This appearance was different from our usual shows because Sierra was not hosting alongside me. I was responsible for managing the music, speaking to the crowd, and asking the questions myself. The focus remained primarily on the DJ set, with the PO’ UP! questions adding another layer to the experience.

An Intimate but Complete Production

The room held approximately ~25 people, but the smaller crowd worked well for the concept. It felt more like a kickback than a traditional party, allowing everyone to engage with the music and become comfortable with one another.

The performance was captured through a three-camera setup. One camera was positioned behind the DJ, another directly in front, and a third faced the DJ from behind the crowd. This allowed the recording to capture the performance, the atmosphere, and the audience’s reactions.

I began my set at approximately 5:00 p.m. and played for around an hour and a half. My music ranged from Deborah Cox’s “How Did You Get Here” to Don Toliver, Sexyy Red, and even some of my own records.

Around 10 minutes into the set, I introduced the first PO’ UP! Live question. From there, I moved back and forth between music and crowd interaction.

Some of the questions included:

Are you bringing your significant other to workplace events?

What was your college major, and are you using it in real life?

Both questions created strong reactions and conversations throughout the room. As the set continued, people became increasingly comfortable responding from wherever they were standing.

The questions provided a break from the constant music while adding comedy and conversation to the set. They also gave guests an opportunity to learn more about one another without interrupting the overall flow of the event.

My Favorite Moment

One of my favorite parts of the set was playing one of my own songs and transitioning it into a popular record.

Several people in the room were already familiar with my music, so hearing them react before the next song raised the energy even further. It represented more than a successful transition. It showed me that my own records could exist naturally beside the music people already know and love.

Another memorable moment came when the entire room began dancing to “You’re a Jerk.” Although the crowd was small, the energy felt genuine throughout the event.

What I Took From the Experience

Sunday Sofa reminded me of the importance of listening to the other DJs before performing. At a recorded event with multiple sets, paying attention to what has already been played helps each DJ avoid unnecessary repetition and bring something different to the room.

DJ Juss Magg and DJ Knwls both delivered calm but energetic sets that allowed the atmosphere to reset and build again. I was moving in and out of the room while preparing for and cooling down from my own performance, but every DJ contributed a different feel to the experience.

I also learned that combining DJing and crowd interaction is possible, but having an additional host would make the format even stronger. Even without one, the PO’ UP! questions gave the audience a different way to participate and helped turn the recorded mix into a complete experience.

Most importantly, it took a long time for me to reach opportunities like this.

Being invited into a curated space to play my music, represent PO’ UP! Live, interact with the audience, and have the performance professionally recorded was something I did not take for granted. I appreciate DJ Knwls, That Was a Good One, Krave, the other DJs, and everyone who helped create the event.

This was another step forward—and another reminder that the work is beginning to reach new rooms.
